Dear colleagues

I am in the process of developing a standard orientation package for nurses who move into a wholly clinically-based education role. I am interested to find out what oreintation structures or processes other sites provide for their nurses as they commence in staff development/education roles?

Many thanks

Hi Anne, we are going through the same process now. We have started the process off with asking each clincial educator to outline their roles, specific tasks for their areas, what would they have liked to know when they started in the role.

We will be interested in sharing information with you.

Dear Gill and Anne,

We offer a one day Clinical Teaching Workshop which provides insight into how to approach teaching in the clinical setting for staff with no formal teaching experience or qualifications.

Not restricted to Clinical Educators, rather aimed at all experienced staff who can and should expect to be involved in clinical teaching/mentoring of less experienced staff.

If we have a new Education Facilitator appointed we also encourage them to complete a Cert IV or Diploma in Training and Assessment through TAFE, +/- Clinical Teaching courses offered through the tertiary sector.

Clinically-based educators are expected to develop a plan outlining education/ professional development priorities and delivery for their unit, in consultation with senior nurse leaders and the wider educator group as appropriate.
